Responsible Gambling

How to keep gambling a hobby, not a problem — and what to do if the line gets crossed.

Updated May 23, 2026

Gambling is entertainment. It costs money — like going to a concert or eating out — and the expected cost is built into how casinos make a living. A casino bonus does not change that math. Wagering requirements exist precisely because the house edge needs to assert itself before any “bonus” money becomes real.

That’s fine — as long as you treat the cost the way you’d treat any other entertainment budget.

This page is what we’d tell a friend who’s about to claim their first bonus.

Set hard limits before you deposit, not after

The single most useful thing you can do is decide your limits before you log in, not while you’re playing.

A bonus is not a reason to deposit more than your limit. If you have to top up to “unlock” a bonus, the bonus is no longer free.

Know what you actually signed up for

Most damage to new players doesn’t come from losing — it comes from misunderstanding what the casino has agreed to.

If the casino’s promotions page hides these terms behind three clicks, that’s a signal — not a courtesy.

We extract these fields for every bonus we list, and we link to the source page. If a casino’s terms are vague, our card shows “not specified” — assume the worst when you see that.

Recognize the warning signs

If any of these describe you or someone you play with, stop and reassess.

Any one of these on its own is a yellow flag. Two or more together — talk to someone, today.

Crypto-casino specifics

Crypto casinos add three failure modes traditional casinos don’t have:

  1. No KYC, no friction. You can deposit anonymously in seconds — which means none of the usual circuit breakers (verification delay, bank flagging an unusual transaction) exist.
  2. 24/7 instant rails. A bad night doesn’t get interrupted by your bank closing for the weekend.
  3. Self-custody means self-control. There’s no support team to call to lock your account if your wallet still holds funds.

If you’re playing crypto: move only your session bankroll to your casino wallet. Keep the rest in a separate wallet you have to deliberately bridge funds out of. Friction is your friend.

Tools the casino gives you (use them)

Most licensed casinos provide:

Use them proactively, not as damage control. Setting a loss limit before your first deposit is not weakness — it’s the same hygiene as using a seatbelt before you’ve crashed.

Where to get help

If gambling is causing harm to you or someone you know, these organizations offer free, confidential support:

If you’re not ready to call yet

Self-exclude from one casino at a time. GAMSTOP (UK) exclude you from every licensed UK gambling site at once, for 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years. BetBlocker is free software that blocks gambling sites on your devices.

These aren’t drastic. They’re the cheapest insurance policy you’ll buy this year.
